Ook gepassioneerd door Drupal? Een web tool waarmee je in geen tijd een site voor je bedrijf, vzw, club, familie, .. kan opzetten om elkaar en de wereld te laten zien waar jullie voor staan. Het leuke is .. Drupal is zo flexibel dat het niet hoeft te stoppen bij een simpele site met wat algemene informatie en een contact pagina en een reeks links naar dingen die je interessant vind. Drupal laat je toe om je bezoekers en gebruikers te laten bijdragen tot de inhoud van je site. Je kan mensen toelaten om te bloggen, foto's te uploaden, verslagen beheren, agenda's opzetten, nieuwsbrieven creeren, ledenadminstratie doen, en zelfs een webwinkeltje opzetten.

On http://drupal.be/node/340 i've posted a step-by-step guide on how to install Drupal 5.1 ontop of a Xampp installation. (Windows-Only). Mind that the tutorial is written in Dutch. You could also take a look at the flickr slideshow which should give you enough visual clues to cover up for your poor knowledge of that fine language. ;)

Het is misschien een 'gekleurde' opinie maar ik heb de indruk dat de belgische overheden (federaal,vlaams,locaal) meer en meer beginnen openstaan voor het gebruik van open source toepassingen. Meestal voor volgende belangrijke redenen (volgens mij in orde van belangrijkheid) : Onafhankelijkheid van een diensten aanbieder (zogenaamde lock-in), Open standaarden Kwaliteit van software/community Prijs Even een kleine steekproef (met de nodige korrel zout) op datanews en IT professional om mijn stelling te staven. Following modules where installed :

• taxonomy access to make some information only available to parents
• subscription to push weekly newsletters to the parents
• front page to be abled to show a different home front page for anonymous and authenticated users.

Workflow:

Nick Boucart and Gert Parisis are both using www.dreamhost.com
Nick is happy with the RubyOnRails and Subversion support, Gert was very eager to start filling the ever increasing 200Gb storage.
So i decided to switch also in order to have a 'hopefully' decent host providing me with lot's of storage, subversion, ssh, good support/faq/wiki but a rather outdated frontpanel. (I'm used to plesk8 at http://www.1-eurohost.be)
Switch Drupal took 25 minutes

Currently i'm in the process of modeling a database which will contain (and run in sync) with a multi-site clearcase server. Lot's of clearcase metadata information about branching, checkpoint, ownership, mastership, regions etc. will need to be tracked. Synchronisation will be a hard one since the mysql db has to be kept synchronized with it's master (the clearcase server at a single site),but also with it's sibling mysql's servers on remote sites.
I was now checking if i should go for myIsam or innoDb tables.
Frank Mash made some valuable points on how to choose between them, or even don't choose but use replication between an innodb table (transactional writing action) and a myIsam table (for fast reading).

I just managed to upgrade my drupal installation to drupal5.0beta2.
I had some issues with the site not displaying correctly and throwing page not found errors.
So i installed it again in a subdirectory of my currentsite. ie. develoop.be/drupal5.0/ and there everything was ok.
So i pulled out my favourite compare tool to compare develoop.be/drupal5.0/ vs. develoop.be/
NO differences! (except for the obvious difference of $base_url in settings.php)

After googling around 20 minutes i finally figured it out.
I forgot to copy the .htaccess file which was hidden by a filter in my compare tool. Copying over that file fixed al my issues.

Morgen, (vrijdag 24 nov 06), vindt de 2e bijeenkomst van de drupal gebruikersgroep meeting plaats in Brussel.
Deze keer gaan we ineens voor een volle dag en een goedgevulde agenda. Ik zie ernaar uit om meer feedback te krijgen over echte use-cases en om wat te discussieren met drupal gebruikers.

I finally managed to finish my thesis to get my Master's degree in IT. It is titled "Can open source exchange my world?" and deals with open standards and exchange protocols to share information like address-books, calendars, etc..
It also briefly touches issues like security and open sources licenses.
